Overview

This is the repository of my different hardware projects. Some of them are of smaller scale, and the applied solutions are relatively simple; however, the road leading to them wasn't always trivial.

Nixie Tube Propeller Clock

Circuit Cellar

This is the full account of the development of the Nixie Tube Propeller Clock, the first such device of this kind. Among other useful information, the complete schematic diagram and the well-documented firmware are also provided (a particularly useful resource for beginner microcontroller hobbyists).

An article about the Nixie Tube Propeller Clock was published in the February 2007 edition of the Circuit Cellar magazine. The clock's coverage on this website serves as a complement to the article; also, this is where the latest information [such as firmware updates] are posted.

Phone Call Monitoring Facility (Ring Detector)

Circuit Cellar

This is a development project I did with my student at the Lawrence Technological University, as the student's Senior Project for the Bachelor of Science degree. The idea came to me through the desperate need to address a real-life problem, and the project turned out to be an excellent learning experience for Monica, so I am proud to admit, this was a success on multiple levels. The gist of the idea is to implement a solution that alerts users about incoming voice mails, even if the telephone system does not support any "Message Waiting" indicator.

After some persuasion, Monica agreed to sit down with me, and write a magazine article about the project; it was published in the June 2008 issue of Circuit Cellar.
